Guardian Veterinary Care’s uncompromising approach to the recognition, prevention, and treatment of pain is paramount in the care of our patients.
Under-managed pain has both ethical and physiological consequences, and our medical team is dedicated to remaining on the forefront of the developments in the field and applying the most contemporary and comprehensive methodologies available in our daily practice.
Multimodal Approach to Pain
Our pain management approach is multimodal, integrated, and balanced, utilizing both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic modalities:
Pharmacologic: Various medications administered either through IV, in joints, near a nerve, under the skin, or orally; and in the hospital or at-home on an out-patient basis, all depending on the patient’s circumstances and needs. These include but are not limited to: NSAIDs, Opioids, Alpha-2 agonists, Local/Regional blocks, Spinal cord modifiers, Adjunctive agents, disease-modifying Osteoarthritic agents, Biologic therapeutics, and Dorsal horn spinal modulators.
Non-Pharmacologic:
- Low-stress handling, pheromones
- Cold compression and/or heat therapy
- Coaptation (bandaging/splint)
- Massage and passive range of motion
- Physical rehabilitation
- Environmental modification
- Pulsed Electromagnetic Field
